Forthcoming Elections in Kidderminster 7th May 2015

Message from Councillor Mary Rayner

"Kidderminster is voting on the same day the 7th May  as the general election and District council as to whether they should have a town council.

Mary Rayner and Peter Young who are the Health Concern team for Broadwaters are supporting the vote for a Town Council."

The Kidderminster Charter Trustees:

The Corporation of Charter Trustees of the Town of Kidderminster is a local government body created by the Local Government Act of 1972 to continue the civic traditions and customs of the town. The Charter Trustees are the 23 members of Wyre Forest District Council who represent the area of the former Borough of Kidderminster on that Council. They assemble each May to elect the Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor of Kidderminster, thus continuing the annual practice of electing a civic head that has continued unbroken since the twelfth century.

Predominantly portraits, the paintings depict mayors and councillors who have contributed to the civic vitality of the town over the last 150 years. Among them are names familiar from Kidderminster’s thriving industrial heritage, including members of the Kidderminster carpet making family, the Brintons. There is a portrait of Sir Rowland Hill (born in Kidderminster in 1795) by an unknown artist, who was widely credited with having brought about the reform of the postal service in the 1830s and 1840s. There is also a fine portrait of Charles I, thought to be a contemporary copy of the well-known portrait by Van Dyck.

The paintings owned by the Charter Trustees are displayed on the main stairwell of Kidderminster Town Hall and may be viewed by appointment.
